An inside look at Career Boost™, our research-informed, seven-part system for turning career uncertainty into clarity, focused action, and the confidence to navigate your career independently.

Sometimes people have a hard time figuring out exactly what I do.

Is it career coaching? Mentorship? Help finding a job?

Well, yes. Sort of. But there's more to it.

The "aha" moment often comes when I walk someone through the Career Boost System™—a seven-part methodology we've developed through years of professional experience, research, and work with dozens of clients navigating important career decisions.

The seven components are Orient, Clarify, Assess, Generate, Structure, Perform, and Adapt & Adopt.

Together, they help people move from uncertainty to clarity, from clarity to focused action, and ultimately toward something bigger than landing their next job: the confidence and competence to manage their careers independently.

Here's a look under the hood.

1. The Fuzzy Front End: Orient, Clarify & Assess

Some clients come to us with a deceptively simple question:

"What should I do with my life?"

Others have several promising options and no idea which one to pursue. Still others have a clear destination in mind but aren't sure what getting there will require—or whether they'll actually enjoy the work once they arrive.

Before we start polishing résumés or filling out applications, we work together to make sense of those questions.

We explore interests, strengths, motivations, and ambitions. We examine industries, organizations, job roles, and the ways work is changing. We look at what different paths might demand, where opportunities are emerging, and what a strong fit could look like.

Sometimes that means challenging assumptions. Sometimes it means introducing career possibilities someone hadn't considered.

And sometimes it means helping someone develop greater conviction in a direction they were already leaning toward.

The goal isn't to discover one magical, perfect career. It's to develop a clearer, better-informed view of which paths are worth exploring—and why.

That's what Orient, Clarify, and Assess help accomplish.

2. Doing the Work: Generate, Structure & Perform

Once we've established a direction, things get more concrete.

This is where much of the work people traditionally associate with career coaching comes into play.

But there's an important difference: we're not just trying to generate more applications. We're trying to generate better opportunities.

Consider someone interested in financial analysis.

A financial analyst working in entertainment may have a very different experience from one working in pharmaceuticals, even if the job titles look similar.

And within the same industry, companies can differ dramatically in culture, growth prospects, management practices, and how they develop young professionals.

Those differences matter.

So we identify target roles, industries, and organizations where someone has both a realistic opportunity to succeed and a reason to be excited about the work.

Then we build the tools and capabilities needed to pursue those opportunities.

That might include a targeted résumé, a stronger LinkedIn profile, a compelling professional story, a networking strategy, or focused interview preparation.

And because knowing what to do is very different from actually doing it, we introduce structure.

Every client has a personalized Career Boost Playbook™ to organize priorities, track opportunities, manage commitments, and learn from what's working.

The pace is personalized, too.

A college sophomore exploring internships, a recent graduate pursuing a first full-time role, and an experienced professional pursuing a promotion or navigating a layoff have different needs, timelines, and available capacity.

Some weeks involve substantial independent work. Others include collaborative working sessions where we roll up our sleeves and tackle challenges together.

Sometimes a client makes their breakthrough while we're still working together. Other times, the foundation we've built pays off weeks or months later.

Either way, we're building momentum—and the skills to sustain it.

3. The Bigger Goal: Adapt & Adopt

Most Career Boost engagements begin with an immediate need.

Find an internship. Land a first job. Explore a career change. Recover from a layoff. Figure out whether graduate school makes sense.

But our ultimate goal extends well beyond solving that immediate problem.

We want clients to learn how to navigate their careers for themselves.

That means understanding how to evaluate opportunities, research unfamiliar industries, build professional relationships, position their experience, prepare for interviews, and make thoughtful decisions about their next moves.

The tools we develop together—from playbooks and research documents to networking and interview preparation materials—belong to the client from day one.

They're designed to be used again and again.

And as the professional world changes, clients can adapt those methods to new circumstances, opportunities, and challenges.

We're not trying to make people dependent on Career Boost. We're trying to make them better at managing their own careers.

In fact, some of my favorite communications with former clients go something like this:

"Hey, sorry I've been out of touch for a while. The truth is, I know how to use all these tools now…"

What they're really telling me is that they don't need me anymore.

And that's exactly the point.

Different People. Different Journeys. One Underlying System.

Over the years, this approach has empowered college students, recent graduates, early-career professionals, and experienced people navigating new chapters.

Our clients have pursued roles in engineering, product management, cybersecurity, finance, law, marketing, entertainment, and more.

They've landed roles with organizations like Beth Israel Health, Courrier Newsroom, Crocs, Delete Me, Electric Boat/General Dynamics, Fanatics, Parker Hanafin, Salesforce, Trilon Energy, William Morris Endeavor, and many more.

But no two engagements look exactly alike.

Every client brings a different combination of aspirations, strengths, challenges, circumstances, and questions.

What remains consistent is the underlying Career Boost System—a forward-looking, impactful, personalized, and structured approach to helping people build careers that fit.

And while landing a great job is often an important milestone, it's not the finish line.

The real win is helping someone develop the clarity, confidence, and capabilities to navigate whatever comes next.
